Olin käymässä 25.1.2017 HNMKY:n ylläpitämällä Puistolan
nuorisotalolla seuraamassa välituntitoimintaa ja koulun loputtua HNMKY:n
ylä-asteikäisille tarjoamia vapaa-ajan palveluita. Puistolan nuorisotalo on
Saavuin paikan päälle kovimman kuhinan aikaan, eli
ruokatunnilla.
Kysymme nuorilta, mitä he haluavat tehdä ja toteutamme ohjelmaa yhdessä heidän kanssaan.
monellakin tapaa. Toiminta vahvistaa nuoren taitoja ja mieltymyksiä
turvallisessa ja kaikille avoimessa ympäristössä. Ohjaajat puhuivat nuorten
kouluun on isoa plussaa heidän silmissään.
Maukkaan
näköistä pastaa siitä sitten tulikin!
On kaiken kaikkiaan hyödyllistä, että nuorille järjestetään
tällaisessa laajuudessa matalan kynnyksen toimintaa ilman maksua. Nuori voi
turvallisessa ympäristössä toteuttaa itseään, harrastaa ja oppia. Tällaiset
kokemukset varmasti vaikuttavat monellakin tapaa positiivisesti nuorten
tulevaisuuteen ja siihen, miten he tulevat pärjäämään myöhemmin elämässään.

I was visiting HNMKY maintained Puistola Youth House on the
25th of January 2017 observing the pause corner activity and after the school
had ended the recreational after-school activities offered by HNMKY. Puistola
Youth House was conveniently in the same space as Puistola’s primary school,
which means that the activity is tightly in co-operation with the school.
I arrived in the middle of the activity during the most
amount of hassle, which means the lunch hour. The activity contains offering
students a chance to have a cup of coffee and just having a chat with
them. Youngsters could put their own
music through their phones AUX-input. The youngster’s were, as their age
requires them to be, very lively and loudmouthed but however quite calm. The
supervisor’s got along well with the youngsters and could take it easy with
them. Grievances however, like swearing and fighting, we’re intervened very
strictly.
We talked with supervisor-Tomi about the meaning of the
activity. ”Puistola Youth House strives to act in support of growth with
school, parents and other factors. We try to create during the school day and
after school an atmosphere, where one can relieve their feelings and spend time
being just who they are. We try to offer support to the youngsters and give
them advice but not being the main educator. The after-school activity contains
for example board game clubs, cooking
clubs, floorball and a DJ-club. We ask the youngsters what
they would like to do and we carry out
the program with them. This way we
get the youth house to look more like us and the home-like atmosphere is a
little bit closer. Home-like, safe enviroment to spend free-time together with
other youngsters and trustworthy adults produces an opportune/natural
enviroment to ask and receive help and support during moments of challenge and
change in a youngster’s own life. Activity is still fresh, we have started last
autumn.”
It is excellent that youngsters are offered this kind of
activity, for many varying reasons. The activity strenghtens youngsters skills
and preferences in a safe and open enviroment for all. The supervisors talked
with youngsters aside of small talk about important subjects too and encouraged
the youngster’s to be active. ”Have you applied for a summer job, what school
were you planning on applying to?” As in other HNMKY activity, the purpose of
the activity is not to offer youngsters just activity, but to be actively a
part of a youngsters goals and problems. Strong set of values clearly shows.
I asked the youngsters opinions about the activities and
about what gets them to spend their free time on the Youth House after school?
At first some clever boy answered that it was too cold to be outside, but after
a few questions it was revealed to me, that the biggest reason youngsters come
here is the social benefits that they can get from this activity. ”All my friends
come here too!” Puistola is, according to youngsters, quite a non-incentive
place aside from HNMKY’s activities, so every piece of activity not tied to
school-time is a big plus in their book.
After the school had ended, the after-school activity was
begun. The activity on a wednesday included floorball at first, after which
there was a cooking club. Nobody counted the goals in the floorball game, it
was very free form. No-one was allowed to be tackled, but otherwise the game
was very fast and intensive. I remember from my own youth the floorball games
and how fun it was to play with friends. Excercise is one of the best ways to
challenge yourself but also others as a part of a team.
Before the floorball match I chatted with the other
supervisor Janne. ”
I started working for HNMKY 16 years ago and this is my 11th year at work. I work in this profession, because I can influence in many ways and be of assistance to a youngster. In here a young person can have help in many different subjects that can be of help long into one’s future. We react swiftly to changes in HNMKY and offer an exceptional amount of different recreational activities compared to other service providers in Finnish organization landscape. In here, Christian values are in practical use.
After the floorball a couple of the youngsters took part in
a cooking club, where delicious pasta was made. The youngsters I interviewed
have gotten in their own words to cook food only seldomly (if convenience food
is not counted). It is good that this literally vital skill in the future
is taught to them in an early stage and that the youngsters are being getting
used to doing the household chores independently and to get them to take care
of themselves.
It is all-around convenient, that this kind of widely ranged
low-threshold activity is arranged free-of-charge to the youngsters. The
youngster can express themselves, excercise and learn in a safe enviroment.
These kinds of experiences will surely affect in many ways positively to a
young person’s future and how they will manage later in their lives.
